Every day, people share their thoughts about products and brands in ratings and reviews and in pictures and videos on social media. And every day, people use these reviews and product recommendations to make purchasing decisions.

We know this because we help serve ratings and reviews, customer photos, and other types of consumer-generated content to 214 million consumers every month on the Bazaarvoice Network, which is home to more than 5,000 leading brands and retailers.

That puts us in a unique position. We see how people are engaging with brands and retailers and what their journeys look like. We also see that word-of-mouth, though it may be more digital these days, has never been more powerful, as people turn to their peers to find the real stories about products and the businesses that sell them. We know that shoppers who interact with consumer-generated content (CGC) buy more often and spend more at brands and retailers.

We think this is all pretty cool, but here’s something that’s even cooler: Having an eye on all this consumer data means we get to pull some pretty interesting insights out of our hats. Like, did you know 87% of laptop buyers read reviews before purchase? Or that people are most likely to buy office supplies during the middle of the week? Well, now you do.
